FlanksimageoneThe flanks, also known as the dreaded ‘love handles’, are a common problem for women particularly as they age. Other reasons for an excess of fat on the flanks include obesity, hormonal imbalance and a genetic disposition to putting on weight in this area.

Consultant plastic surgeon and pioneering laser plastic surgery expert Mr Hassan Shaaban will determine the extent of the problem in terms of excess fat and excess skin. If there is a high degree of excess skin or skin laxity then you might benefit more from a surgical procedure that will remove the excess skin. However, if the problem is mild to moderate then liposuction could be the answer.

Laser Liposuction of the flanks has many advantages over traditional liposuction. The laser energy tightens the skin at the same time as removing the fat, meaning you are left with a smoother body contour. Laser Liposuction has the additional advantage of less bruising, swelling and discomfort.Flanksimagetwo

The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic. Mr Shaaban injects the local anaesthetic through tiny incisions and then, when the treatment area is numb, the laser probe is inserted through the same incisions and the laser energy is directed into the skin and fat. Mr Shaaban advises patients to wear a pressure garment for three to four weeks after surgery to maximise the result.

For many women, a shapely and defined contour to the flanks is highly desirable and Laser Liposuction represents the optimal treatment option available.
